Significance of the Yatra
Kedarnath holds immense spiritual value in Hinduism, and visiting this divine shrine is considered a dream by many devotees. The word ‘Kedarnath’ is derived from Sanskrit, where ‘Kedara’ means field and ‘Natha’ means Lord, referring to ‘Lord of the Field’. Ancient texts like Kashi Kedara Mahatmya describe Kedarnath as the land where “the harvest of liberation” flourishes. Recognized as one of the twelve Jyotirlingas and also a key part of the Panch Kedar, Kedarnath stands as one of the most sacred sites for devotees of Lord Shiva.

Summer (May – June)
The temperature ranges from 17°C to 30°C, making the weather pleasant and ideal for spiritual travel. This is the most recommended time for the Kedarnath Yatra.
Monsoon (July – August)
Heavy rainfall leads to frequent landslides and road closures. Travel during this season is not advisable due to safety risks.
Autumn (September – October)
The post-monsoon period brings clear skies and lush greenery. However, temperatures start dipping, so carrying woollens is essential.
Winter (November – April)
Due to extreme cold and heavy snowfall, the temple remains closed. The idol of Lord Kedarnath is shifted to Ukhimath for worship during these months.
